This project was inspired by the work of Los Angeles based artist Patrick Martinez. We were inspired by his mixed media ``landscape paintings". These pieces speak directly to neighborhoods in Los Angeles and the change that has happened there and how that impacts the communities who call these spaces home. As a class, students were asked to think about communities and locations that they feel personally represent them or impact them. It was our hope that by exploring these individual communities, that students could then bring those spaces together to create a class community of their own. By using these spaces as inspiration, students created compositions that represent these physical places and used construction materials like drywall, spackling paste, plaster, spray paint and airbrushing to create mixed media pieces.
